Collaborating with SSC on your course is a good fit if you have some expertise to share, but don’t want to go through the hassle of becoming a CE provider yourself. (It’s a very extensive process!) 

*We are not able to provide CEs for classes taught to other types of professionals.

Your course must be for:

*If you are outside of California, it is up to you to determine whether your state governing board will accept CEs provided by a CEPA provider.

A continuing education course instructor must satisfy at least one of the following minimum qualifications:

  • You possess a relevant post-secondary degree from an educational institution in an area related to the subject matter of the course (Master’s degree or higher) 
  • You have received a license from the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, Board of Psychology, or equivalent entity. Your license is free from restrictions due to disciplinary action by any health care regulatory agency.
  • You have direct personal or professional experience in the subject matter of the course(s) that would inform clinicians’ work with diverse populations. This may include:
  • A demonstrated significant history of employment in a non-psychological/mental health profession or field of study that is directly related to the subject matter of the course; 

  • Documentation attesting to advanced level training, experience or expertise in the subject matter of the course; 

  • And/ or extraordinary, personal, life experiences that directly and specifically relate to the subject matter of the course.

Acceptable Continuing Education Courses:

Acceptable Continuing Education courses for marriage and family therapists, clinical social workers, professional clinical counselors, and educational psychologists include, but are not limited to:

individual courses
conferences
symposiums
trainings
self-study 
distance-learning education

Additional Requirements:

All training, education, and coursework by CAMFT-approved continuing education providers must incorporate one or more of the following:

  • Aspects of the discipline that are fundamental to the understanding or practice of marriage and family therapy, clinical social work, professional clinical counseling, and educational psychology
  • Aspects of the discipline of marriage and family therapy, clinical social work, professional clinical counseling, and educational psychology in which significant recent developments have occurred
  • Aspects of other disciplines that enhance the understanding of the practice of marriage and family therapy, clinical social work, professional clinical counseling, and educational psychology; and
  • Courses related to the diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of the client population being served.

All courses must have a syllabus that contains written educational goals, specific learning objectives and a course evaluation. These details are provided on the application for collaboration. 

Courses that won’t be accepted:

It is important to be aware that self-improvement courses, courses designed for non-practitioners, and courses created exclusively for the benefit of psychotherapists’ and/or psychotherapists’ businesses are not acceptable courses for CE credit.

Minimum/Maximum attendees: 

The number of attendees is up to the instructor, however, if you are renting space at SSC, the maximum number of attendees in person is 24. This number is also contingent on how the room is set up. Please inquire for more information.

How the Process Works:

Step 1:

Submit application via a secure Google form and pay $50 Application fee.

Step 2:

Your application will be reviewed and we will get back to you within 3 weeks. 

Step 3:

If approved, we will send you a Collaboration Agreement for you to sign and a link to pay the $150 Administrative fee. If, for some reason, we cannot approve your application, we will send you an email.

Step 4:

Refine the details of your course. Work with us on the logistics to ensure your course is meeting all the requirements for CEs.

Step 5:

Teach your course! Drop that knowledge. Don’t forget to take attendance!

Step 6:

Distribute evaluations. Only participants who complete an evaluation and who have paid their CE fee will be eligible for a CE certificate.

Step 7:

CE certificates will be emailed to participants within 2 weeks after completed evaluation has been received by SSC.

What We handle and what you handle:

Courses that provide CEs for the participants are often more sought out and well-attended than those that don’t. The beauty of collaborating with Second Street Collective is that we will handle all of the administrative tasks associated with providing CEs, leaving you to develop your course content, making it easier to share your expertise with your colleagues. While SSC charges a small administrative fee to the course instructor for the collaboration, as well as a fee directly to the participant for the CE certificate, all the income you receive from course registrations is yours.

Are courses live, virtual, or in person? What platform?

Courses can be live and virtual or live and in-person. The platform used is up to the instructor. The instructor is responsible for taking attendance and making sure that attendees have completed the entire course.

What is the maximum number of attendees per course?

If you are renting space at Second Street Collective, the maximum number of attendees in-person is 24. Any other location is up to you, including virtually.

How do participants obtain their CE Certificate?

Participants must submit a completed course evaluation and pay the fee, $5 per CE credit (i.e., $5 × 3 CEs = $15.) See here for more info.

How are CE certificates issued to attendees?

Second Street Collective will email participants directly with their CE certificate within 2 weeks after they have submitted a completed course evaluation and paid the $5 fee per CE credit.

Which CE approval do you hold, and whose licenses do the credits count toward?

Second Street Collective, LLC (Provider #1033086) is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and LEPs. The course meets the qualifications for hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.

What are the fees to collaborate on a CE course with Second Street Collective?

Fees include a $50 Application Fee due upon submission, and a $150 Administrative Fee due with the Collaboration Agreement. If you would like to host an in-person course at Second Street Collective, please contact us about renting space

What happens if I have to cancel my course?

As the instructor, you are solely responsible for communicating with your participants regarding the cancellation, including whether or not you will give refunds. All administrative fees ($50 application fee and $150 administrative fee) paid to Second Street Collective are non-refundable. 

When can I expect to hear back about my application?

You can expect to hear back from us within 3 weeks of submitting your application. 

Will Second Street Collective help create content for my course?

While Second Street Collective is responsible for making sure the content is in alignment with the CEPA requirements, the instructor is solely responsible for creating the content of the course.

Will Second Street Collective provide flyers and promotional materials?

The instructor is responsible for creating and distributing all flyers, promotional materials and handouts for the course. If you would like to tag us on instagram, we are happy to accept that collaboration to help you get the word out about your course.

I am an Associate, can I teach a course for CE credits?

No, you must hold an unrestricted license from the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, Board of Psychology, or equivalent entity. Come back to us when you’re licensed and we’d be honored to help you share your brilliance!
